PHOENIX – A Phoenix man was arrested for weapon and drug offenses after shooting two people at his home Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

Gregory Stephen Alt told officers he fired in self-defense, the Phoenix Police Department said Wednesday.

Officers found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds after responding to a shooting call in the area of 40th Street and Thunderbird Road around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The victims were taken to a hospital with critical injuries.

“Early information indicates that the two victims showed up at the home of Gregory Alt and his girlfriend. During the interaction, the two visitors were shot,” Sgt. Melissa Soliz said in a press release. “Alt claims he shot the two in self-defense.”

The investigation is ongoing.

“Alt and his girlfriend were both detained and questioned. … Detectives have not been able to interview the two victims due to their medical conditions,” Soliz said.
