PHOENIX – The Phoenix Fire Department celebrated breaking ground on its upcoming fourth station in Ahwatukee on Friday.
Fire Station 74 will be located near 19th Avenue and Chandler Boulevard.
“The construction of the station is a promise, a promise that we will continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our residents that we will provide our firefighters with the best resources possible,” Phoenix Fire Chief Mike Duran said. “And that we will always work to build stronger, safer communities.”
The groundbreaking celebration featured appearances from a handful of guest speakers including Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, District 6 City Council Member Kevin Robinson, Congressman Greg Stanton, Director of Perlman Architects Gerrald Adams, VP of Business Development and Pre-Construction at BFL Construction Alex Ortega and Duran.
The new station, which was designed by Perlman Architects and built by BFL Construction, Inc., features sustainable technology and meets the city’s green building initiative.
“The station will feature state-of-the-art technology, energy efficient equipment, allowing our firefighters and paramedics to serve this community with the highest levels of readiness and professionalism,” Duran said. “Fire Station 74 will be more than just a place where we house fire trucks. It will be a true community hub, offering safety programs for our prevention education and a space where the public can engage with the fire department.”
“This is an area that has really grown in recent years and this really is needed,” Robinson said. “And it’s a testament to the hard work, the dedication, the collaboration of so many people.”
