PHOENIX — For the first time in almost two months, Phoenix is expected to get rain showers.

The National Weather Service has forecast a 70% chance of rain for Monday evening, with that probability dropping to 50% for Tuesday.

The city could receive up to a quarter of an inch on Monday and a tenth of an inch on Tuesday, according to NWS.

If there’s measurable rainfall, it would break a 45-day streak of no precipitation in Phoenix.

Since April 26 of last year, Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport has measured 2.5 inches of rain. The normal during that time is about 8 inches.

Temperatures will remain low early in the week because of the threat of precipitation.

The high for Monday is forecast to reach 78 degrees. That will drop to 72 degrees on Tuesday before jumping to 85 degrees on Wednesday.

Phoenix will leave its cooler early week temperatures in the dust by the weekend and could hit triple digits for the first time in 2021.

The high for the city is projected to be 99 degrees on Friday before hitting 103 degrees on Saturday.

The average for the first 100-degree day of the year in Phoenix is May 2.
