Phoenix drug-ring leader indicted for sale of meth, heroin and fentanyl

PHOENIX — The leader of a Phoenix-based drug ring was indicted last week for the sale and distribution of methamphetamine, heroin and fentanyl, the Arizona Attorney General’s Office announced Monday.

Emmanuel Romero Hernandez was indicted for two counts of transportation of a narcotic drug for sale and one count each of conspiracy, illegal control of a criminal enterprise, sale or transfer of a narcotic drug, possession of a narcotic drug for sale and transportation of dangerous drugs for sale, according to a press release.

Hernandez was arrested March 14 after a three-month investigation conducted by the Tempe Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

According to the release, Hernandez’s ring was responsible for distributing thousands of fentanyl pills as well as meth and heroin around the Phoenix metro area.

Police seized 26,000 pills containing fentanyl, 20 ounces of heroin and 20 pounds of methamphetamine from couriers working for Hernandez, according to the release.
