PHOENIX — Beware, Phoenicians: Triple-digit temperatures could make their return to town this week for the first time this year.

The temperature is forecast to reach 99 degrees on Tuesday, which will at least tie the closest the mercury will get to 100 since the start of 2022.

Mark O’Malley, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Phoenix, told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Monday there’s a 30% chance the city gets to triple digits on Tuesday.

“If we don’t hit 100 tomorrow, it looks like we’re going to have to wait a little bit to get to that magical threshold,” O’Malley said.

April 26 has been a milestone for triple-digit temperatures recently in Phoenix.

In 2019 and 2020, it was the day for the city’s first 100-degree weather. The mercury hit triple digits for the first time in 2021 on May 5.

If not Tuesday, Phoenix will likely have to wait until May before hitting the mark.

The high will dip to 97 degrees on Wednesday, 94 degrees on Thursday and 90 degrees on Friday before jumping to 95 degrees on Saturday and Sunday.

The average date in Phoenix for the first 100-degree day of the year is May 2.

“The rest of the week is cooler and there’s really not much of a chance of hitting that level,” O’Malley said.

KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Taylor Kinnerup contributed to this report.
