PHOENIX – A suspect in two sexual assault cold cases in Phoenix, including one involving a minor, was taken into custody in northwestern Arizona earlier this month, authorities said.
The Phoenix Police Department said its new Adult Sex Crimes Cold Case Unit used DNA to link Zackaria Mudasir to a 2016 case with a 19-year-old victim and a 2017 case with a 13-year-old victim.
Mudasir, 32, was picked up on March 8 in Mohave County on a warrant out of Maricopa County, according to court documents.
He was booked into Maricopa County jail on two counts of sexual assault and one count each of kidnapping and sexual conduct with a minor. His bail was set at $500,000.
The Phoenix Police Adult Sex Crimes Cold Case Unit has made 11 arrests since it started in December, the department said.
