PHOENIX — The Arizona Autism Charter School will soon be educating seventh- and eighth-grade students.

Although the school currently serves kindergarten through 6th grade, this fall the Arizona Autism Charter School will become the only charter school in Arizona to serve autistic students through the 8th grade.

“We wanted our kids who have done really well in our program to have an option to stay in our program as they moved up in the grade levels,” said Diana Diaz-Harrison, director and founder of the Arizona Autism Charter School.

Officials with the charter school, located near 7th Street and Indian School Road in Phoenix, said they plan to add a second building to house sixth- through eighth-grade students.

Diaz-Harrison said there is currently a wait list for students who want to attend the school.

“We are very excited and are thrilled that we can offer this to older students on the autism spectrum,” Diaz-Harrison said.

Diaz-Harrison said they would like to add on grades nine through 12 in the future.

We want to hear from you.
