PHOENIX – Authorities said a man jumped off a moving Greyhound bus and was fatally struck by multiple vehicles on a freeway north of Phoenix early Tuesday.

Southbound Interstate 17 was shut down near Sunset Point, about an hour from downtown Phoenix, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said in an email.

A DPS spokesman said the man, who had been acting irrationally onboard, opened an emergency hatch and jumped out.

The investigation shut down the roadway around 5:30 a.m. It was reopened just after noon.

No other details were made immediately available.
