PHOENIX — Get your motor runnin’ and head out on the highway as Valley freeways will be clear of scheduled closures on Labor Day weekend.

Those looking for adventure won’t have anything in their way as the Arizona Department of Transportation said in a press release there would be no scheduled closures for construction or maintenance along metro Phoenix freeways starting Friday afternoon and running through Monday night.

Drivers are still encouraged to allow for extra time and be on the lookout for stormy weather, any unscheduled highway closures due to crashes, disabled vehicles or incidents such as wildfires or storm damage.

Other recommendations include not driving into flooded washes or other low-lying roadways with standing water as even a few inches of running water could still pose a serious risk.

While freeways will be clear of closures, ADOT says drivers should be prepared for heavier traffic, especially during peak travel times on Friday and Monday.

Drivers should also bring extra drinking water and other supplies in case of a delay.
