PHOENIX — As we get ready to usher in a new year, Phoenix will also be ushering in cool temperatures.

The National Weather Service is predicting temperatures will reach the mid 50s by Tuesday and remain in that range for most of the week in the city.

Expect temperatures around 65 on Monday, with breezy winds in the afternoon, before temps dip to to 44 degrees overnight.

The forecast also calls for a 40% chance of rain Monday night in the Valley with a 20% chance on Tuesday.

Possible light snow is projected for Tuesday morning in Northern Arizona.

Overnight lows are expected to dip down in the 30s nightly starting on Tuesday. Some outlying areas may see near freezing temperatures.

On Thursday, the high will settle around 59 and on New Year’s Eve, skies will be partly cloudy with a low of 37 degrees.

By New Year’s Day on Friday, the high is forecast to be 61 degrees with sunny skies and a slight wind in the afternoon, and a low of 37 degrees by night.

The projected early week rainfall could be the last rain of 2020, a year where Phoenix has seen higher temperatures and less rain than normal.

The Valley recorded its hottest summer in history, with 50 days of at least 110 degrees.

Phoenix has collected 4.17 inches of rain so far this year, according to the NWS’ rainfall index.
