PHOENIX — Authorities across the state of Arizona made over 200 arrests linked to driving under the influence during a two-day patrol over the Fourth of July holiday.

According a report released Thursday from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, 11,395 traffic stops were conducted July 3-4.

Of the stops, 289 resulted in DUI arrests, with 62 of them being for extreme DUI, which is defined as having a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .15 or higher.

Additionally, seven of the arrests were drivers under the age of 21.

Last year between June 29 and July 4, there were 539 DUI arrests made, including 148 extreme cases.

Despite patrols only lasting two days this year, the average BAC for drivers under the influence rose from .159 in 2017 to .165.

The traffic stops this year also resulted in 233 arrests not related to those driving under the influence.

Across the state, 1,726 officers and deputies participated in the two-day enforcement.
