Jose Garcia was driving his truck out of a private drive near Stapley and University drives before the collision, according to the Mesa Police Department.

An unidentified object fell out of Garcia’s vehicle while it was in motion.

Garcia then stopped his vehicle in the roadway and left on foot to retrieve the object, police said.

A silver passenger truck that was traveling northbound on Stapley Street struck Garcia while he was walking back to his vehicle.
