PHOENIX — A Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputy shot and killed a man who threatened deputies with a gun on Saturday morning, according to authorities.

The incident occurred just after 8 a.m. at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort in Paradise Valley near Scottsdale and Indian Bend roads.

Paradise Valley police were serving a search warrant on several individuals and asked for assistance from the MCSO SWAT team after one man refused to exit the room and peacefully surrender to officers, according to authorities.

The MCSO deputies made entry into the room and attempted to take the man into custody after several hours of negotiations.

The man confronted the deputies with a gun and the SWAT team shot the man, according to authorities.

Life-saving procedures on the man were unsuccessful.

Two other suspects were taken into custody without incident.

The investigation is ongoing.

No additional information was made available at this time.

It was the first shooting of the year involving the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and seventh overall by Valley law enforcement, according to KTAR News 92.3 FM research.
