PHOENIX — A Massachusetts man was arrested Friday after allegedly making a bomb threat against an Arizona elections official, authorities said.

James W. Clark, 38, of Falmouth, was accused of using the contact form on the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office website on Feb. 14, 2021, to send the threatening message, according to an indictment.

“Your attorney general needs to resign by Tuesday February 16th by 9 am or the explosive device impacted in her personal space will be detonated,” Clark said in the message.

Clark also used a web browser to search for the official’s address and searched “how to kill” the official four days after sending the bomb threat, according to the indictment.

Other searches on Clark’s web browser included “fema boston marathon bombing” and “fema boston marathon bombing plan digital army,” according to the indictment.

Clark was charged with one count of making a bomb threat, one count of perpetrating a bomb hoax and one count of communicating an interstate threat.

He made his initial court appearance Friday in Boston.

If convicted, Clark could face up to 10 years in prison for making the bomb threat and up to five years in prison for each of the counts on the bomb hoax and making a threatening interstate communication.

FBI in Phoenix is investigating the case.
