PHOENIX — Maricopa County attorney Rachel Mitchell on Thursday accused Arizona Rep. Alex Kolodin of spreading false information regarding her office’s involvement with a company that provides election services.

The residing attorney said Kolodin, a state representative for District 3 since elected in 2022, claimed that the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office rejected a change in terms in a contract with Runbeck Election Services, Inc. However, Mitchell said the MCAO has no authority to accept or reject the contractual terms, according to a press release.

“MCAO only can advise the Board of Supervisors as to what the law allows the Board to do,” Mitchell said in the release.

Mitchell said Rep. Kolodin had attempted to negotiate a separate contract with Runbeck outside of the county’s current agreement. The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors was in fact the entity that turned down his proposal on March 11, 2024.

In the statement, Mitchell said she personally called Kolodin to set the record straight but he did not clear up the situation.

“Rep. Kolodin’s misinformation campaign is false, irresponsible and incendiary,” Mitchell said.

Mitchell, the Republican incumbent running for reelection on Nov. 5, is set to face Democrat Tamika Wooten who ran unopposed in her respective primary.
