Maricopa County Attorney Adel home from hospital after brain bleed

Dec 31, 2020, 2:49 PM

PHOENIX – Maricopa County Attorney Allister Adel has returned home from the hospital and is recovering after emergency surgery for a brain bleed on election night.

Chief Deputy Ken Vick and Chief of Staff informed Maricopa County Attorney Office employees of Adel’s progress in a letter on Thursday.

“She is so appreciative of everyone’s well wishes and looks forward to seeing all of you in the New Year,” the statement said.

The letter noted Adel has signed her oath of office following her win in November’s election and “looks forward to serving as county attorney.”

Adel was rushed to the hospital on Nov. 3 after she fell and hit her at her home. She underwent emergency surgery for bleeding in the brain.

Adel, a Republican, wound up defeating Julie Gunnigle by about 35,000 votes to become the first woman elected as Maricopa County attorney.

She’s been in the post since October 2019, when she was appointed to fill the vacancy created when Bill Montgomery’s was named to the Arizona Supreme Court.

We want to hear from you.
