PHOENIX — A man was hospitalized Saturday after being involved in a boating accident north of Lake Havasu.

Deputies responded to the Colorado River Area about a man who’d been hit by a boat propeller, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

Authorities determined during the investigation that several people aboard a boat got out to push it into deeper water after it’d gotten stuck in a shallow area.

Once they were successful, the operator of the boat believed he left it in neutral, but mistakingly had it in reverse while a man was swimming toward the rear ladder area, authorities said.

He received significant lacerations after being struck in the abdomen multiple times.

The man was hospitalized in stable condition.

Authorities said impairment is not suspected, while operator inexperience seems to be a factor.

The incident remains under investigation.
