PHOENIX — A man received two life sentences last week after he was convicted of killing another inmate at an Arizona federal prison, authorities announced Monday.

Morgan Wayne Siler, 40, of Portsmouth, Virginia, pleaded guilty to murder and conspiracy in September for the 2015 crimes, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.

Siler and another inmate, David Hammer, killed another prisoner at the United States Penitentiary in Tucson on Dec. 18, 2015. The two men planned the murder in advance, authorities said.

The prisoner’s cause of death was asphyxia and blunt force injuries.

Siler was in federal custody for a 2008 assault on a Bureau of Prisons corrections officer and a 2005 retail robbery conviction in Virginia.

Siler’s two life sentences will run consecutive to the ones he is already serving.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation.
