Teen found shot in Phoenix street near freeway, dies at hospital

PHOENIX – Police said a teenage boy was shot and died in a hospital early Wednesday in Phoenix and the search is on for a suspect.
The Phoenix Police Department said they were called around 1 a.m. about a male lying in the access road near Interstate 17 just south of Northern Avenue.
Officers found the boy, identified as 16-year-old Jose Cordova Torres, who had been shot. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died.
Police said another man and a teenager were also treated for gunshot wounds at a hospital. Investigators believe the two are connected to the victim’s shooting at 27th and Northern avenues.
The investigation shut down a southbound ramp at Northern Avenue and Interstate 17 until around 8 a.m.
No other details were immediately made available.
