PHOENIX – A man accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend after sexually abusing her young son was arrested Sunday in Phoenix, according to police and court documents.

Officers responded to a call about an injured child around 10 a.m. Sunday, the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release.

They found a 6-year-old boy with cuts on his neck in the care of 20-year-old William Zovieh Washington Calvin.

When asked where the boy’s mother was, Calvin said she was at her Laveen Village home near 51st Avenue and Broadway Road, police said.

Officers found Delores Smith, 27, at the house dead of gunshot wounds.

Calvin allegedly told officers he’d shot Smith when she confronted him about sexually abusing the boy and then cut the boy with a knife, according to court documents.

The boy was treated at a hospital. His injuries weren’t considered life-threatening, police said.

Calvin was booked into Maricopa County Jail counts of first-degree murder and child abuse.

His bond was set at $2.5 million.

Calvin’s status conference was scheduled for Dec. 27, and his preliminary hearing for Dec. 29.

We want to hear from you.
