PHOENIX — A man was arrested Sunday morning after a two-vehicle crash left one man dead and another person seriously injured, authorities said.

Officers responded to a report of the collision around 2 a.m. near Maryland and 43rd avenues and found the driver of one vehicle with serious injuries, the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they learned David Leeshawn Johnson, 30, was driving south on 43rd Avenue when his vehicle crossed into the northbound lanes of the road.

Johnson’s vehicle struck another vehicle driven by the unidentified man who later died.

A passenger in Johnson’s vehicle was hospitalized with critical injuries, while Johnson was treated for minor injuries and released.

Johnson was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on multiple charges, including manslaughter.

Police said impairment is believed to be a factor in the investigation.
