PHOENIX — A man was arrested Wednesday night for allegedly using a bow and arrow to shoot a Chandler police officer.

The Chandler Police Department said officers were sent to a house near Chandler Boulevard and McClintock Drive about 9:30 p.m. after the suspect, Thomas Leeper, called and texted the department to make threats about killing officers.

When officers arrived, the 32-year-old Leeper allegedly used a bow and arrow to shoot one officer in the arm.

Leeper was shot with rubber bullets and arrested. He was hospitalized but his injuries were not life threatening.

The officer, who has not been publicly identified, was treated at a hospital and released.

Police said Leeper also shot a family member with the bow and arrow. There was no word on that person’s condition.

Police said Leeper would be charged with multiple crimes, including aggravated assault on a police officer and domestic violence.

Leeper had been previously arrested on suspicion of arson.
