PHOENIX — Two Buckeye police officers suffered minor injuries while detaining a suspect who allegedly crashed a stolen city truck on Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Officers responded to a call about a man stealing a city vehicle from an active worksite near Baseline Road and Central Boulevard around 10 a.m., according to the Buckeye Police Department.

The suspect, identified later as 39-year-old Jesse Wells, crashed the stolen city truck into an unoccupied vehicle about a block away and tried to flee on foot.

However, a city employee helped stop him as officers arrived.

Wells then allegedly assaulted the officers while they took him into custody, police said.

One of the officers was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and released.

Wells was booked into a Maricopa County jail on multiple felony charges, including aggravated assault on an officer and vehicle theft. His bond was set at $50,100.
