List of Arizona events canceled or postponed in response to coronavirus

PHOENIX – Here is a list of events in Arizona that have been canceled, postponed or otherwise impacted by the coronavirus outbreak:

City of Tempe: The City of Tempe is enacting a temporary pause on public gatherings that include public special events and project-specific public input meetings through the end of April. Tempe’s decision will impact both city-sponsored events and those produced by external organizers. All events scheduled at the Tempe Center for the Arts have also been canceled through April.

Town of Gilbert: The East Valley community has postponed all town-run special events through April 10. Gilbert’s weekly Saturday morning farmer’s market was planning to proceed as scheduled.

City of Apache Junction: On Friday, the City of Apache Junction announced it is temporarily suspending large special events through the end of the month.

City of Peoria: Peoria will postpone city events, programs and sports leagues into the month of April. These postponements are effective March 16.

City of Chandler: On Friday, Chandler announced all city-sponsored events or ones that take place on City of Chandler property are canceled through April 30. Senior active adult recreation programs are also canceled through the end of April.

Arizona State University: ASU announced on Friday that for the next 30 days, all events on any campus or in any ASU building not directly related to the educational or research mission of the university are canceled.

Sports: The National Hockey League and National Basketball Association have suspended their regular seasons, meaning no games for the Arizona Coyotes or Phoenix Suns until further notice. Major League Baseball has canceled the remainder of spring training, bringing the 2020 Cactus League to an early end, and delayed the start of the regular season at least two weeks. The Arizona Tennis Classic has been postponed until next year. The LPGA has also postponed the Founders Cup, which was scheduled to occur next week at Wildfire Golf Club. Arizona State University has canceled all sports competitions until further notice. The Volvik Founders Cup LPGA golf tournament set for March 19-22 at Wildfire Golf Club at JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa was called off; there are plans to reschedule it later this year.

Chandler Ostrich Festival: The popular annual event scheduled for March 13-14 has been postponed. Boy band 98 Degrees and Blues Traveler were supposed to be the festival’s headline acts in its 32nd year.

50th Annual Scottsdale Arts Festival: Scottsdale has called off its annual arts festival, which would have occurred on March 13-15.

Fountain Hills Irish Fountain Fest: The town of Fountain Hills has canceled its annual Irish Fountain Fest, which would have been held on March 14.

Phoenix St. Patrick’s Day Parade: The city announced it canceled the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which would’ve been held on March 14. The fair portion was also canceled.

Six Flags Hurricane Harbor: The water park in Glendale, which was scheduled to open March 14, has suspended operations until at least the end of March.

Disney on Ice: Originally scheduled to be held at Talking Stick Resort Arena March 12-14, Disney on Ice’s “Celebrate Memories” performances have been canceled.

Nickelodeon’s JoJo Siwa’s show at Gila River Arena: The March 15 event has been postponed until June 10.

Tucson Festival of Books: Following more than 100 author cancellations, the popular annual event set for March 14-15 was called off.

Democratic presidential debate: The debate between Sen. Bernie Sanders and former Vice President Joe Biden scheduled March 15 has been moved to a TV studio in Washington, D.C. Before the decision to move the debate was made, it had been announced that no audience would be allowed in Arizona Federal Theatre in downtown Phoenix.

Black Hockey History Tour: The National Hockey League’s Black Hockey History Mobile Tour had been scheduled to visit Tempe Marketplace on March 15 and Gila River Arena on March 16 before the Arizona Coyotes game against the Dallas Stars.

André Rieu: The “King of Waltz” said he is working to reschedule the remaining dates of his U.S. tour. Rieu had been scheduled to perform at Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix on March 17.

Luke Days 2020 Airshow: The popular annual show at Luke Air Force Base near Glendale was canceled citing growing health concerns. The show had been set for March 21-22.

Eco PHX Expo: The originally scheduled March 21 event has canceled and is expected to be rescheduled at a later time.

Gilbert Pizza Festival: Organizers of the inaugural event at Gilbert Civic Center are looking to reschedule it from the original March 21 date.

Luke Days: The annual airshow at Luke Air Force Base scheduled for March 21-22 has canceled.

Zac Brown Band: The Grammy Award-winning country act is putting off the spring leg of The Owl Tour, which was scheduled to stop at Ak-Chin Pavilion in Phoenix on March 28, citing “public health concerns.”

CulturePOP Bock Party: Avondale and Goodyear have decided to forgo their annual CulturePOP Block Party, originally scheduled for March 28.

Celine Dion: The powerhouse vocalist has postponed the remaining North American dates on her Courage World Tour, including a March 29 show at Gila River Arena in Glendale.

Rage Against the Machine: The rap-rock pioneers canceled the first part of their long-awaited reunion tour, including shows scheduled at Gila River Arena in Glendale on March 30 and April 1.

Bird City Comedy Festival: The three-day showcase for comedians across several downtown Phoenix stages will be rescheduled from its March 26-28 dates, organizers said.

Celebrity Fight Night: Celebrity Fight Night will be held on Oct. 3 instead of April 4 as originally planned in order to address concerns about the Coronavirus.

Phoenix Pride: The 40th annual festival and parade originally set for April 4-5 will be rescheduled for the fall, organizers said.

Pearl Jam: The band was scheduled to perform at Gila River Arena in Glendale on April 11. It was one of multiple March and April concerts the rockers indefinitely postponed.

Foo Fighters: The rockers were scheduled to perform at Talking Stick Arena in Phoenix on April 12 as part of the 25th anniversary Van Tour. They have rescheduled for Dec. 5.

Children’s Museum of Phoenix: The museum is closed until further notice.

Pat’s Run: The Pat Tillman Foundation announced Saturday that the April 18 annual group run has been canceled due to concerns of hosting almost 30,000 people on the streets of Tempe. Instead, participants are encouraged to keep the event going by running it on their own and connecting with the community through social media.

Arizona Museum of Natural History: The Arizona Museum of Natural History and the i.d.e.a Museum have temporarily closed starting March 17 until further notice.

Mesa Arts Center: The Mesa Arts Center is closing its theaters beginning March 16 through March 29. All events scheduled to take place during that span have been either canceled or postponed.
