PHOENIX — Phoenix’s Kate Gallego is leading a coalition of Arizona mayors supporting the U.S. Senate candidacy of Democrat Ruben Gallego.

Kate will chair the coalition that includes Republican Mesa Mayor John Giles, Tucson’s Regina Romero and Tempe’s Corey Woods. More than 30 mayors from across the state — and ex-mayors such as U.S. Rep. Greg Stanton — have pledged their support for Gallego.

“I’m proud to chair the ‘Mayors for Gallego’ coalition because I know firsthand Ruben’s commitment to building a brighter future for Arizona,” Kate said in a press release. “We have real challenges facing our state that require a leader with a proven record of service and clear dedication to collaborating with local leaders to get things done for our families.

“Ruben will do an excellent job working for all of us as our next senator.”

Kate Gallego and Ruben Gallego were married from 2010 to 2016. The Phoenix mayor endorsed her ex-husband in December 2023, a decisions she said wasn’t difficult.

“Our most important relationship is as co-parents, that is always first. Being a parent is the greatest honor so I always want to deliver for our son,” Kate told KTAR News 92.3 FM at the Democratic National Convention in August. “This is an easy decision for me … I definitely want Ruben to win.”
