PHOENIX – President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly considering Arizona’s own Kari Lake to be his ambassador to Mexico.

Semafor published a story Monday detailing Lake’s potential position in the new Trump administration, citing two anonymous sources familiar with the situation.

If nominated, Lake would have to be confirmed by what will be a GOP-controlled Senate.

Why Kari Lake could play prominent role in Trump administration

Lake, a former local TV news anchor, rose to political prominence as a loyal supporter of Trump and his MAGA movement.

She is a star in the Trump wing of the Republican Party but has been unable to parlay that into electoral success in Arizona.

Trump endorsed Lake when she won the GOP nominations for governor in 2022 and a U.S. Senate seat this year, but she lost to her Democratic opponents in both general elections.

If she becomes ambassador to Mexico, she would play a prominent role in the Trump administration.

Border security and immigration have been at the forefront of Trump’s three presidential campaigns.

And last month, he said one of the first executive orders he plans to sign after taking office on Jan. 20 will be a 25% tariff on all products entering the U.S. from Canada and Mexico.

He said the tariffs will be way to get the neighboring nations to do more to police their sides of the border.

“This Tariff will remain in effect until such time as Drugs, in particular Fentanyl, and all Illegal Aliens stop this Invasion of our Country!” he wrote in a Nov. 25 Truth Social post.

We want to hear from you.
