Leslie Allen Merritt Jr., a suspect connected to four of 11 freeway shooting incidents was placed on a $1-million cash-only bond Saturday at his initial appearance at Maricopa County Superior Court.

Merritt was brought in a four counts of drive-by shooting, four counts of intentional acts of terrorism, four counts of aggravated assault involving a deadly weapon, four counts of criminal damage, four counts of endangerment, four counts of discharging a firearm within city limits and four counts of disorderly conduct involving a weapon.

Procecutors argued Merritt posed a significant threat to the community and the judge agreed and found “sufficient probable cause”.

Merritt spoke at the appearance after being warned that he should not, saying that he’s “the wrong guy” and he hasn’t had access to his guns for two months.

Merritt was arrested Friday night at a Wal-Mart near 59th Avenue and Northern Avenue in Glendale after  a weapon that he owned and had attempted to pawn was forensically linked to four of the 11 freeway shootings occurring on August 29th and August 31.
