PHOENIX — The Scottsdale Fire Department is launching its new ground ambulance service this weekend, the department announced on Friday.
The new unit named “Rescue 602” will be housed at Fire Station 2, located near Indian School Road and 75th Street.
On Sunday, the department anticipates Rescue 602 responding to its first call.
Earlier this year, Scottsdale Fire received its Certificate of Necessity (CON), which gave the department the necessary authorization to begin the ground ambulance service.
The city began the process of implementing the service in March 2022.
Why does Scottsdale Fire need a ground ambulance service?
Captain Dave Folio said in an announcement the service allows the department to respond quicker and more efficiently to emergencies.
According to the city, the service has four main goals:
- Make sure patient care for the citizens and visitors of Scottsdale continues.
- Provide more equitable accounting for costs associated with delivering standard fire-based emergency medical services.
- Make response times more reliable.
- Boost transportation capabilities for Scottsdale residents and visitors.
