Grand Canyon National Park’s North Rim to reopen Sunday morning

PHOENIX — The North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park will reopen Sunday at 6 a.m. for the 2022 season.
Services including the campground, Backcountry Information Office, Grand Canyon Conservancy Bookstore, Grand Canyon Lodge and trail rides will also restart operations, according to a press release.
The Arizona Department of Transportation will open the Highway 67 gate at Jacob Lake by 5:30 a.m. to allow entry into the less visited side of the canyon.
Another attraction to reopen is Fire Point on the Kaibab Plateau, which has been closed since September 2019 after a lightning-caused wildfire. Fire Point was previously a popular place for mountain biking, photography, sight-seeing and car camping, which requires a permit.

Overnight lodging reservations can be made online, as well as the campground.
The North Rim is only accessible before the season starts via inner canyon trails from the South Rim or cross-country skiing and hiking from Jacob Lake by those with backcountry permits.
It is visited by only 10% of Grand Canyon visitors, according to the National Park Service.
The season runs until Oct. 15 when the North Rim closes for winter.
