PHOENIX – A memorial service for Phoenix police officer Zane Coolidge will take place on Wednesday, the Phoenix Police Department announced Friday.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. and closed to the public. The service will be streamed on the department’s Youtube channel.

At the request of the family, the Phoenix police are inviting the public to honor the officer by lining the sidewalks along the procession route. It will start at 60th Street and Bell Road, head west and turn left onto Cave Creek Road where it will stay until its arrival at Dream City Church.

The procession will consist of motor officers, family, friends, and Coolidge’s squad from the Mountain View Precinct.

Coolidge died on Sept. 6, three days after he and another officer were a shot at in Phoenix.

Around 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 3, Coolidge and Matthew Haney responded to area of 16th Street and McDowell Road to investigate reports of an auto theft.

The officers approached 41-year-old Saul Bal, who ran away and jumped over a fence. Bal allegedly shot at them when they chased after him.

Bal was arrested by backup units who were called to the scene and both officers were taken to Banner University Medical Center.

Haney was discharged from the hospital on Sept. 4 but Coolidge remained on life support until his death.

“Officer Coolidge was a husband, father, son, brother, friend and a dedicated and beloved member of the Phoenix Police Department,” Interim Chief Michael G. Sullivan said in a press release.
