PHOENIX — Nine years after becoming besties, Valley residents Michelle Keoghan and Suzanne Theune are putting their shared love of “Friends” to the test.
Keoghan and Theune are featured on HBO Max’s “Fast Friends,” a four-episode game show that pits pairs of superfans of the enduring TV program against each other with various trivia challenges.
The Arizona contestants co-own the Shag Salon Scottsdale hair salon. Playing on Team The Rachel, they won their first-round matchup and qualified for the finale, which debuts on the streaming platform Jan. 9.
“Suzanne and I are straight up ’90s girls and we grew up living and breathing this show like it was our real lives,” Keoghan said in a press release Monday. “I had always wanted to be on a game show, and when we heard about ‘Fast Friends,’ we knew we had to sign up. We really related to the show’s arc and say ‘Friends’ was our blueprint in the ’90s.”
To celebrate their appearance in the finale, Keoghan and Theune are hosting a watch party at their Scottsdale salon. The public is welcome to join them to find out if their Ross, Chandler, Joey, Phoebe, Rachel and Monica expertise reigns supreme.
The Jan. 9 party will be a binge-watching session of all four “Fast Friends” episodes from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Anyone interested in attending can learn more about the event here.
What is the ‘Friends’ game show and how does it work?
“Fast Friends” was created in light of the sitcom, which debuted on Sept. 22, 1994, celebrating its 30th birthday. Whether contestants are tasked with charades, basic trivia or some other bizarre activity, the name of the game is speed.
The game show hosted by comedian Whitney Cummings debuted on Dec. 19. HBO Max is releasing the episodes weekly through the finale. Keoghan and Theune appeared in the first episode.
Each segment was filmed at “The FRIENDS Experience: The One in New York City” to provide contestants a truly memorable and nostalgic experience.
