PHOENIX — A former Tucson insurance agent who admitted to devising a scheme to defraud annuity clients out of more than $1 million was sentenced to 51 months behind bars last week, authorities said.
Koreasa M. Williams, 46, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Jennifer G. Zipps after previously pleading guilty to wire fraud, the U.S. District Attorney’s Office, District of Arizona, said in a press release on Monday.
As part of the guilty plea, Williams admitted to the scheme and that she sent request forms to various life insurance companies seeking to withdraw money from her clients’ annuities without their knowledge.
She also directed the life insurance companies to wire the money directly to her personal bank account.
“It is essential that individuals who use their position and skill to harm others be held accountable,” U.S. Attorney Gary Restaino said in the release.
“We are grateful to our partners at the FBI for bringing this case forward and are hopeful that its resolution will bring some closure for the victims.”
Investigation of the case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, while the prosecution was handled by the United States Attorney’s Office, District of Arizona, Tucson.
