First of 2 additional Arizona Testing Blitz dates to happen Saturday

May 22, 2020, 4:25 AM

PHOENIX — People who feel they’ve been exposed to or infected with the coronavirus will have an additional chance to receive a test on Saturday as the Arizona Testing Blitz continues.

The program was extended through the end of May last week after initially being scheduled to finish on May 16 after three weekends of testing.

The goal is to test 10,000-20,000 Arizonans for COVID-19 during each blitz day.

Testing for coronavirus antibodies is not included in the program.

The Arizona Department of Health Services listed more than 25 sites across the state as of Thursday that will conduct tests on Saturday, with most requiring pre-registration either online or via phone.

A majority of those testing sites are located in Maricopa County, the hardest-hit area in the state with 7,835 confirmed cases of the virus as of the report on Thursday.

Coronavirus cases in Arizona swelled to 15,315 on Thursday with 418 additional cases. The death toll also increased by 16 and has now reached 763.

The state reported Thursday that 171,627 coronavirus tests (PCR testing) have been conducted, with 6.8% coming back positive for the virus.

According to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, Arizona currently ranks 48th among states in coronavirus testing per capita.
