Glendale fire personnel respond to 3 blazes believed to be firework-related

PHOENIX — Glendale firefighters responded to three fires, all of which are believed to be firework-related in a span of 12 hours, authorities said.

The string of events began last night around 9 p.m. when the neighbor of a residence near 43rd and Dunlap avenues alerted authorities of a garage on fire, the Glendale Fire Department said in a press release.

Crews arrived to find a large amount of fire in the garage and back patio, which had to be combatted with hose lines through challenging conditions, including high heat and low visibility, Glendale fire said.

Three people and three dogs were displaced due to the incident, and one elderly person received medical attention on scene.

The fire is believed to have started on the patio and was firework-related, the release said.

The second blaze ignited near 83rd and Glendale avenues sometime around 9:20 p.m. when a neighbor called authorities to report a house fire.

When fire personnel arrived they found no active fire, but there was charring to the front of the house on the stucco. The charred bit of stucco was removed to make sure the fire hadn’t gotten into the walls, Glendale fire said.

The family told fire personnel that after they set off fireworks in front of their house they placed the used fireworks in a box and onto their front patio.

After they went inside, the box caught fire and burned the front wall by the door.

The last incident happened sometime before 12:10 a.m. near 59th and Peoria avenues when fire personnel were called to a trash fire at a single-story home.

Authorities believe it was firework-related.
