PHOENIX — Fire crews were battling a blaze Sunday morning at a local scrapyard in Phoenix, authorities said.

The flame and smoke, a four-alarm fire, appeared at the business located near 22nd Avenue and Willetta Street, according to a Phoenix Fire Department tweet.

Crews were called to the area around 5:45 a.m.

Authorities also reported multiple explosions, which were believed to have been caused by magnesium and occurred after the fire started.

Phoenix fire officials said flaming meteorites were a byproduct of the explosion and that debris could be seen from over 100 yards away.

Hazmat crews were called to the site to further evaluate the scene, authorities said.

The fire was brought under control around 2 p.m.

There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire had yet to be determined.
