PHOENIX — A wildfire burning 10 miles south of Prescott has resulted in evacuations and road closures in the area, officials said Monday.

The Crooks Fire is located two miles north of Palace Station, just off Senator Highway, according to InciWeb. As of Monday evening, officials said the fire had grown to 500 acres and was 0% contained.

Evacuations were ordered for residents located near Mount Union.

Camp Kiva and Mount Tridal have already been evacuated, authorities said.

A shelter has been set up at Findlay Toyota Center in Prescott Valley.

Residents in Hopper’s Retreat, Evan’s Cabin, Potato Patch, Lower Wolf Creek, Groom Creek and Groom Creek camps are in “Set” status.

Poland Junction and Breezy Pines are in “Ready” status.

The fire has closed Goodwin Road from Crown King to Senator Highway.

Walker Road is also blocked at Senator Highway, along with Lower Wolf Creek Road at Senator Highway and Big Bug Mesa at Goodwin Road.

The fire was discovered at 10 a.m. and is burning through brush, ponderosa pine and mixed conifer, the National Forest Service said.

Resources fighting the fire include crews, engines and aircraft.

Smoke from the fire could be seen from multiple locations including Chino Valley, Mayer and Prescott Valley, officials said.

No additional information was available.
