Election bills could be on Arizona Senate agenda next session

Nov 6, 2020, 4:25 AM

PHOENIX – The president of the Arizona Senate said Thursday that the state legislature plans to introduce bills next session around elections in the wake of the 2020 election.

“There’s going to be a few election bills that are going to be dropped just because of some of the things that went on,” Karen Fann told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s The Mike Broomhead Show.

Fann is a Republican state Senator representing District 1, which encompasses Prescott and other portions north of the Valley.

Arizona has been in the national spotlight this week as Democratic candidate Joe Biden and incumbent Republican President Donald Trump are locked in a tight presidential race. The Associated Press and Fox News have declared Arizona a win for Biden, but other have held off.

Entering Thursday, Biden led Trump by about 68,000 votes, a difference of 2.35 percentage points, in the state.

Fann also mentioned that when it comes to elections, they want to introduce bills to make it more transparent about where outside funds are coming from.

She pointed to outsider money coming in to attempt to unseat incumbent Republicans in the state legislature other attempts to flip the state blue.

“We should have better laws that show where this money is coming from when it comes to people that are literally just dumping millions and millions in here,” Fann said.

The Senate also expects to work with legislation around water, public safety and COVID-19, which is one of the top concerns.

“We’ve got to get all of our businesses back open, our schools Obviously, we need to do it safely, but we can’t just keep being shut down,” Fann said.
