PHOENIX — Arizona’s Doug Ducey will continue his leadership role with the Republican Governors Association.

Ducey will be RGA co-chair for 2022 with Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts, the association announced Thursday in a press release.

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds was also extended in her role as RGA vice chair for 2022.

Ducey was elected chairman for 2021 in December, succeeding Texas’ Greg Abbott.

“I am honored to be selected by my peers to continue serving the RGA beyond my current term as chairman and alongside two incredible leaders and friends, Governor Ricketts and Governor Reynolds,” Ducey said in the release.

“I look forward to carrying on the RGA’s momentum as we work to expand the number of Republican-held governor offices.”

The announcement came as Ducey focused his attention on passing the state’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year.

Ducey vetoed 22 bills on Friday and told state lawmakers he won’t sign any more legislation until they pass a budget.

The budget deal he worked out with Republican leaders has proven to be controversial and faces significant hurdles.

The Senate on Thursday pulled the plug on a plan to vote on a budget and instead adjourned until June 10 unless they break the impasse earlier on the $12.8 billion spending plan.

The House reached the same conclusion on Wednesday, adjourning until June 10 unless they can reach a deal with their members sooner.
