DPS: 3 damaged Tucson windshields not Interstate 10 shooter

PHOENIX –Three windshields damaged on highways near Tucson are not related to the Interstate 10 shootings, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said Tuesday.

Bart Graves with the agency said all three windshields were hit by road debris.

Graves provided several other updates on the case during the press conference. He said DPS was delayed in addressing a woman who claimed her car was damaged near Gila Bend because of the 911 system’s structure. Rather than being immediately referred to DPS, she was instead transferred to another agency.

After raising the reward for information leading to a conviction to $50,000 on Monday, Graves announced police would be distributing flyers to increase awareness of the shootings.

A person of interest was detained in the case and later arrested on unrelated charges. Oscar De La Torre Munoz faces multiple charges and is due on court on Friday.

The shootings began late morning Aug. 29, when an SUV heading east on I-10 near 19th Avenue was hit by a bullet. Since then six more vehicles were hit by a bullet and four were hit by a projectile.

There has not been a confirmed shooting since Sept. 10.

State troopers have been patrolling freeways from early morning to night. Graves said they all are working on little to no sleep.

DPS can be contacted at 602-644-5805. Silent Witness can be reached at 480-WITNESS.
