Debut of Carcara restaurant at Sheraton Phoenix Downtown delayed

Sep 2, 2021, 1:45 PM

PHOENIX — The debut of Sheraton Phoenix Downtown’s new restaurant has been pushed back to next year.

Carcara, one of the final stages of the hotel’s renovation, had been scheduled to open sometime in September.

A press release Thursday said the new tentative target is January 2022, citing “the ongoing pandemic and impact on the local community.”

The restaurant will feature southwestern menu items, including Native American and Sonoran-inspired dishes and cocktails, according to a press release.

Carcara, led by executive chef Chaz Frankenfield, will serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and evening cocktails.

“From the modern design incorporating lush greenery and warm earth tones to the Sonoran and Southwestern-inspired menu using locally sourced ingredients, Carcara evokes the heritage and history of the local Phoenix community and welcomes all to immerse themselves in the destination,” Frankenfield said in the release.

Traditional items like dips, salads and soups can be expected, but the menu will also feature entrees such as wilted spinach and tangerine cranberry sauce or beef ribeye with roasted fingerling potatoes, jalapeno cilantro chimichurri, garlic and lemon-broccoli.

The restaurant is on the southeast side of the hotel near Third and Van Buren streets.

With 7,000 square feet of dining space, including a 2,000-square-foot outdoor patio, and three private dining rooms, Carcara will have the capacity to seat up to 276 guests.

The space will feature greenery in pots and planters, as well as a 14-foot tall chestnut oak tree with a 21-foot diameter canopy growing through the wood trellis in the center of the dining room.
