PHOENIX — A suspect was arrested in connection with a deadly mobile home fire in Phoenix over the weekend, authorities announced Wednesday.
Joel Hernandez Anaya, 22, was booked into a Maricopa County jail on two counts each of manslaughter and attempted manslaughter, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
Officers responded to the mobile home fire on Michigan Avenue near Union Hills Drive and Cave Creek Road around 9:45 a.m. Sunday, police said.
Two people were found dead after firefighters extinguished the flames. Three others were taken to a hospital in stable condition to be treated for burn injuries, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.
How was suspect in deadly mobile home fire identified?
Arson investigators and members of the police department’s Violent Crimes Bureau took over the case.
“Detectives worked relentlessly in investigating this incident. After processing the scene and conducting multiple interviews, investigators [were able to] identify, locate and apprehend the suspect,” Sgt. Mayra Reeson said in a media advisory.
Anaya allegedly made incriminating statements while being interviewed at a police station and was booked into jail Tuesday.
His bond was set at $500,000.
