PHOENIX — Police in Chandler are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday night.

According to police, an officer responded to a parking lot on Ray Road just east of Interstate 10 shortly after 6 p.m. to conduct a welfare check on a woman inside a vehicle.

The woman, 50-year-old Renata Eldred, was reported to be disturbing other people in the parking lot.

Police said Eldred had a gun in the car with her. The officer commanded her not to touch the gun but she did not comply.

Instead, police said she grabbed the gun and made a threatening move with it toward the officer.

The officer then fired two shots at her, striking her in the upper chest.

The woman was taken into custody and then to a hospital for treatment.

After being released from the hospital, Eldred was booked into Maricopa County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct and aggravated assault.

The officer was not injured.
