PHOENIX — A neophyte Canadian discount airline will fly into Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport for the first time Saturday.
Swoop’s inaugural flight from Edmonton to Mesa is scheduled to depart at 8 a.m. and arrive at 10:27 a.m.
The first flight the other way is scheduled for 11:15 a.m.
“Swoop’s arrival offers an additional transportation choice for Canadian snowbirds as well as an enticing option for Arizonians looking to explore Canada,” Karen McIsaac, senior advisor of communications at Swoop, said in a press release.
Swoop first announced in August that it would be fly between Edmonton and Mesa.
The twice-weekly service will continue on Wednesdays and Saturdays until April 27.
The carrier offers unbundled travel, with base fares that cover just the seat. Add-ons such as assigned seating, extended legroom, snacks and checked or carry-on baggage are available for additional fees.
Swoop is owned by WestJet Airlines and debuted in June with flights within Canada, serving five cities. The new airline has a fleet of Boeing 737 jets.
In addition to the Phoenix area, Swoop added three Florida cities – Tampa, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando – and Las Vegas to its list of destinations.
