Building fire sends smoke billowing over downtown Phoenix

PHOENIX — A fire at a building in downtown Phoenix near Fifth Avenue and Monroe Street on Thursday resulted in smoke being seen for miles.
Crews responded to the fire around 4 p.m. and found smoke and flames coming from the roof of a vacant building, the Phoenix Fire Department said in a press release.
The fire was extinguished just after 6:30 p.m.
Crews are getting good knockdown on the fire.

The fire resulted in the closure of Monroe and Adams streets from Fifth to Sixth avenues, authorities said.
The Phoenix Fire Department said the streets would be closed for an unknown amount of time.
No additional information was available.
