PHOENIX — Banner Health is building a new hospital in Chandler with construction beginning in the fall and an expected opening in 2020.

According to a release by Banner Health, the hospital will be a four-story, 240,000-square-foot campus located on the corner of Alma School Road and Loop 202.

“This will be a comprehensive full-service hospital,” Banner Health Chief Operating Officer Becky Kuhn told KTAR News 92.3 FM. “We will start with about 120 beds and with the potential to grow to 175.”

The hospital will offer imaging, surgery, labor and delivery, intensive care and an emergency room.

The comprehensive hospital will be a pillar to the Banner Health presence in Chandler, which already includes two urgent care centers and several more clinics.

“We are very excited. We have a strong presence already in the East Valley and this will just add to it and allow us to better serve the southeast Valley and the Chandler area,” Kuhn said.

Investment costs in the building are expected to be more than $150 million.

There are more than 80,000 members in the Banner Health Network that reside in the southeast Valley including Chandler, Gilbert and Ahwatukee.

KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Jeremy Foster contributed to this report.

Editor’s note: On Nov. 14, 2018, Banner Health announced that the new hospital would be named Banner Ocotillo Medical Center.
