PHOENIX – AT&T Fiber is now available in parts of the East Valley, bringing an acclaimed high-speed internet option to thousands of suburban Phoenix homes.
Over 16,000 households in Mesa, Gilbert and Chandler are included in the initial service area, the telecom giant announced Thursday.
“In an increasingly virtual world, access to high-speed internet is a key to success for individuals, families and business owners,” Mesa Mayor John Giles said in a press release. “We welcome AT&T to Mesa as their team delivers fiber connectivity, ultimately creating better access to education, jobs and health care for our great city.”
With upload and download speeds of up to 5 gigabits at the top service tier, the new high-speed internet option can reliably support multiple devices, including streaming and pro-level gaming, AT&T said.
Research by Ookla supports the company’s claims. Testing over the first half of 2024 found that AT&T Fiber is the nation’s fastest and most consistent fixed internet service provider (ISP).
How to find out if you can get AT&T Fiber
The East Valley rollout is the first step to bringing AT&T Fiber to metro Phoenix. Potential customers can check availability online and sign up to be notified when the service comes to their area.
“Our commitment to expanding high-speed connectivity is stronger than ever, as we strive to meet the growing demand,” JR Luna, an AT&T executive, said in the release. “In today’s digital age, having reliable, high-speed internet is crucial, and we’re excited to provide this essential service to these communities, with plans to extend our reach even further.”
Competing ISP Google Fiber is also bringing high-speed internet to the region. That service is available in parts of Mesa, with work underway to launch in Chandler and Queen Creek. The ISP is also negotiating with Tempe.
