PHOENIX – Arizona state Rep. Lorenzo Sierra left the hospital Wednesday after battling coronavirus, according to his wife.

Rhonda Cagle posted on Twitter that Sierra was leaving and they would spend a few days recovering before returning to Arizona.

“(He) has made nothing short of a miraculous recovery,” Cagle said. “We are so grateful!”

Sierra posted on Twitter Sunday that he was “humbled by all the calls and messages.” He also said he would have to relearn how to eat and walk following his stint with coronavirus.

Cagle said on Monday that Sierra was off the feeding tube and had been transferred from high to low flow oxygen.

Sierra represents Legislative District 19, which is made up of Avondale and parts of Phoenix, Goodyear and Tolleson.

He and Cagle were visiting family in September in Washington, D.C., when they both fell ill with the virus. Sierra went to a Washington hospital on Oct. 4 but was transferred to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.

The two both tested negative before leaving for Washington and took extensive precautions but still got sick.

We want to hear from you.
