Arizona Snowbowl opening Friday, the earliest winter start in 86-year history

Nov 7, 2024, 6:08 PM | Updated: 6:51 pm

PHOENIX — Arizona Snowbowl is set to begin its winter season on Friday, the earliest start in the resort’s 86-year history.

The Flagstaff hotspot has already received about two feet of snow, including a foot on Thursday with more to come.

Snowbowl will have limited trails open to start and lift tickets for opening weekend begin at $19.

Angie Grubb, marketing manager at Arizona Snowbowl, is expecting a good crowd for the opening weekend.

“We hope that a lot of people will come partake in the fun and get some skiing and snowboarding in,” Grubb told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Thursday.

An early start for Arizona Snowbowl

Snowbowl’s opening comes less than six months after winter operations ceased and about two weeks before normal.

The resort is coming off its longest season in history. Last season started Nov. 17 and ended June 1.

That was due to Snowbowl finishing with 399 inches of snow, far more than the usual range of 160-260 inches.

“Hopefully this season … things go even longer,” Grubb said.

Just five trails — all more advanced ones — will be open with only the Arizona Gondola running on opening weekend.

The high for Flagstaff on Friday is forecast at 48 degrees with a low of 13 degrees.
