PHOENIX — The Arizona Restaurant Association has raised $250,000 for a relief fund aimed to immediately help those in the industry that are out of work due to the coronavirus outbreak, ARA announced in a press release on Wednesday.

Gov. Doug Ducey’s executive order required all eateries to close in-house dining, but still allows for takeout and delivery orders.

The fund is called Arizona Restaurant Strong and has already begun funding restaurant workers who are now out of work.

Pending specific criteria, the AZ Restaurant Strong relief fund is intended to give a maximum of $500 individual grants to waitstaff, bartenders, line cooks, dishwashers and other hourly workers.

All eligibility requirements and those looking to apply can do so online.

“As an organization, we must be proactive to help the restaurant industry service staff that are in economic distress,” association president and CEO Steve Chucri said in the release.

“Through this initiative, we can help those who have suddenly found themselves without a paycheck breathe a little easier knowing that this immediate aid can help them buy groceries, pay their rent, fill their prescriptions and take care of their families.”

Those wishing to aid the AZ Restaurant Strong relief fund can donate online as well.
