PHOENIX — The Arizona Pickleball League is featured on a new docuseries now streaming on Amazon. “Breaking Pickleball,” is a six-episode series that follows the Scottsdale-based league’s Spring 2023 season.

The show is centered around the five teams that played in the inaugural season (The Scottsdale Scorchers, Gilbert Gladiators, Peoria Pythons, Tempe Tornadoes and Surprise Stinger) and follows each team’s journey throughout the regular season and onto the playoffs before the Orchard Championship Cup.

“This isn’t a documentary about the evolution of pickleball; it’s a touching story of people striving to be the best – pickleball is just the medium for the story,” co-founder of the Arizona Pickleball League and executive producer of “Breaking Pickleball” Ashley Leroux said in a press release.

Where is the Arizona Pickleball League located?

The Arizona Pickleball League is located at The Orchard at Jigsaw Health’s indoor pickleball venue, located near Pima Road and just off Loop 101 in Scottsdale.

“We knew we were on to something when the matches that we were live streaming were getting 10,000 people around the globe to tune in,” co-founder of the Arizona Pickleball League Patrick Sullivan Jr., said in a press release. “Rubber chickens, glow sticks and pyrotechnics are not something you normally see in your standard pickleball matches … viewers will quickly learn the Arizona Pickleball League is on a level of its own.”

CEO of production and distribution company SPACEMOB Loren Wilson said the show is currently negotiating with other streaming services around the world that could pick up the docuseries.

All six episodes of “Breaking Pickleball” can now be streamed on Prime.

Why is Pickleball so popular in Arizona?

In addition to the Arizona Pickleball League, USA Pickleball, the national governing body for the sport, is moving its headquarters to Scottsdale. Its current headquarters are in Surprise.

Scottsdale will also be home to the sport’s U.S. national team and the first phase of the new facility is expected to open this fall.
